The Volta Regional Education Directorate has observed the low performance of candidates from the Basic and Second cycle schools in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) respectively. In the BECE for example, the region has not seen a pass rate of 50% or above since 2009. The WASSCE results have also not shown improvements especially in the core subject areas.
