A total of 3,011 residents have benefited from a free eye screening organised by the member of parliament (MP) for Buem constituency in the Oti region.
The initiative was a collaboration of the MP Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams together with Lifetime Wells Vision and Friends Eye Center to support Buem Constituents.
Between Monday, March 13 and Sunday March 19, 2023, several towns and communities in the Buem Constituency (Jasikan Municipality) benefitted from the second free eye screening exercise.
The exercise saw a total of 3,405 individuals from various communities such as Ketsi, Nsuta, Akaa, Atonkor, Nanankor, Oseikrom, Guaman, Attakrom, Bodada, Teteman, Awoma, Baglo, New Ayoma, and Jasikan who undergo free eye treatment, issuance of glasses and cataract surgery.
Out of the 3,405 beneficiaries, 3,011 were given medication, 704 were given contact glasses, while another 309 individuals were identified to undergo cataract surgery for free.
The gesture has been appreciated by the beneficiaries, who expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the MP, Kofi Iddie Adams collaborators for improving their vision and ultimately, their quality of life.
The initiative serves as part of the Member of Parliament’s efforts to support his constituents, especially in matters concerning their health.
In his speech, Mr Adams underscored the importance of taking care of one’s eyesight by going for regular check-ups and encouraged the beneficiaries to spread the word to their friends and family members to go for eye screenings as well.
This initiative comes at a crucial time when many people in the rural communities are grappling with healthcare access and high costs of treatment.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with the reporter expressed their gratefulness to the member of parliament for his love and care to improve on their health needs.
They appealed to him, to continue with his good works and always respond to them anytime they call in him.
